Lindquist joins Army

Published 06:00 a.m., May 31, 2009

For The Journal

Shay A. Lindquist has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.

Lindquist is a 2005 graduate of Jefferson High School, Alexandria, and will report to Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C., for basic training in August 2009. He is the son of Kim Lindquist of Rachel Drive, and grandson of Dianne Terhark of County Road 5, both of Alexandria.

The enlistment gives the new soldier the option to learn a new skill, travel and become eligible to receive as much as $50,000 toward a college education.
