Concerts, potluck planned in Vining
Published 06:00 a.m., May 31, 2009
For The Journal
The 2009 Scandinavian Midsummer Festival is slated to feature “Crazy Fingers Lindquist” at two free concerts and a potluck supper.
The festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, from 3 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The day is sponsored by Leif Erikson, Sons of Norway, for fun and entertainment celebrating the Midsummer tradition of Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden.
While the concerts will be inside, other activities are planned for the park areas. A 15-foot Swedish ‘maistång’ or Midsummer pole, covered with flowers, will grace the lawn area. Flowers to make head-piece garlands will be available as one activity. Games and other activities are planned for children of all ages and adults. One game, KLUB from Scandinavia, is a lawn game for varying ages. Scandinavian music with accordion and fiddles will be performed by local musicians.
Attendees are invited to bring a potluck dish to participate in a potluck supper at 5:30 p.m.
Two identical free concerts will be performed by Gordon “Crazy Fingers” Lindquist inside the Vining Community Center at 4 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. The concerts are supported, in part, by a Lake Region Arts Council grant.
Lindquist, the featured entertainer, will be in Vining for his first appearance.
